The South Fork of the American River is California’s most popular rafting and kayaking run. In part, because it is so close to Sacramento and San Francisco, but also because it is dam controlled and flows throughout the hot summer months. With Class II and III rapids, and a wide range of trip options, the South Fork American is a great place to learn to kayak or bring your family or a large group rafting. Nothing beats big splashy waves and a fun adventure in the summer.

Insider Tip

Make sure to have shoes that will stay on your feet if you swim! Flip flops and Crocs do not fall into this category. The main reason is to protect your feet, the other reason is that no one wants to see a bunch of shoes floating down a beautiful river canyon or piled up in Folsom Lake!
